The Open Gate Foundation is a community based not for profit registered charity that provides funding to support participation in equestrian activities including horse riding and horsemanship training for those experiencing disadvantage.  We work to help people who have multiple and complex life challenges.


The Open Gate Foundation uses the proven services of The Riding Patch in Strathalbyn to help young people grow and flourish.  


We see big potential in every moment, and care deeply about what we do every day. Our unique development ensures that we have the very best team at every level of operation. Our leadership team reflects a group of diverse individuals with breadth and depth of experience across the foundation.

REX KEILY AM


Rex has contributed a lifetime of service to the community and was awarded member of the Order of Australia (AM)in 2002 for his contribution to the automotive industry and to the community as a Senior Executive at Mitsubishi Motors, Vice President Federal Chamber Automotive Industries, Chairman of Woodcroft College, President of Scouts Australia SA Branch and the Board of World Vision Australia.


His other Board experiences include Chairman of Community Living Australia, The Bible Society, Coopers Foundation, Business SA, SA Centre for Manufacturing, Strathalbyn Commerce Association and the Strathalbyn Tourist Association.


Together with his wife Norma, they breed alpacas and sheep on their property, Serenity Farm, and open their award winning garden for charity.  Rex is also the Strathalbyn Ward Councillor on the Alexandrina Council and a Justice of the Peace. 


NINA ARNOTT OAM


Nina is a Senior Instructor and Clinic Assessor, and Site Auditor with Horse Safety Australia Inc. Her education included BA Hons, a Diploma in WHS, and qualifications as a Workplace Trainer and Assessor.


She and her husband set up and ran the non-denominational Christian camp Wirraway Homestead, providing horseriding experiences and other activities for approximately 150,000 young people over 40 years. In that time she also set up a Registered Training Organisation for Wirraway's staff, as well as for others who were delivering a variety of outdoor activities in similar organisations. Her OAM award was for her Service to Youth. Over her career she served on a number of Boards including Wirraway Homestead, Australian Horse Industry Council, RDAA, and Boards of the schools her two daughters attended. She is passionate about the value of safe and enjoyable horse experiences as a valued tool for the development of young people from all backgrounds.

VIVIENNE GOODENOUGH


Vivienne has lived in Strathalbyn since 1979 and has been involved in the local community with her children through basketball and tennis, and as a business owner for 25 years, including running a real estate business in Strathalbyn with her late husband, Kym.


For a time she acted as Secretary of the Strathalbyn Commerce Association and she also was involved in a Commonwealth consultative committee bringing grant funding to regional communities. Her connections with basketball resulted in a lead administrative role at local and state levels, and at National Championships. She is a member of the Fleurieu Regional Women in Business group, and Strathalbyn Rotary where she has held various board positions. She is passionate about the opportunity to serve the community. She now works in health administration in Strathalbyn and enjoys spending time supporting her son and granddaughters who also live locally.

LAUREN McKEE


Living in Goolwa with her young daughter, Lauren is passionate about contributing to a prosperous, sustainable, and inclusive Fleurieu community. Lauren has extensive experience in the development and management of not-for-profit business activities across health, community services, education, and disability services sectors.


Lauren has qualifications in Accounting, Business Management, and Training and Assessment; is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors; and is currently completing a Masters in Human Resource Management. Previous roles include Director of Fleurieu Bendigo Community Bank and Chairperson of the Community Investment Committee, and Treasurer of Goolwa Community Centre Incorporated.

BRAD BUTLER


Brad Butler is a person passionate about life. Married with 4 children, Brad is active in the lives of his children and the Fleurieu community in which they all live. Brad holds tertiary qualifications in Agriculture, Education, Finance & Investment and is a Graduate of the Governor'sLeadership Foundation.

Brad is a Certified Financial Planner and manages his own Financial Planning practice.  His community involvement encompasses the Fleurieu Community Foundation, the Encounter Bay Football Club, Victor Harbor Triathlons, Oxfam as well as other charities and sporting clubs. Brad has been a past state finalist for an Australia Day Local Hero Award & additionally has been recognised with an Advantage SA Community Award and the Premier'sCommunity Service Award.

KATHY ANGEL

Kath is a coach, owner and parent to a child with a physical disability.

She is the Owner of a unique horse riding school, The Riding Patch.

Kathy's brackground is in horses from her teen days, through to compertion in Showjumping and Eventing where she found her tallent for coaching riders from basics throught to advance.


Kathy is pssionate about riders learning to ride with confidence and create riding skills that can be transfered to day to day life skils. She promotes riders to learn, develop and grow, in a fun and supportive environment.
